An old or overloaded switchboard is one of the most common causes of electrical faults and fire risk in Australian homes. If yours still has ceramic fuses, trips regularly, or has no safety switches, it's time for an upgrade.
Fix Electrical's licensed electricians upgrade switchboards, install safety switches and powerpoints, and track down faults fast — all to AS/NZS 3000 standards, with honest, upfront pricing and no mess left behind.

Frequent tripping

If your board has no RCDs, your circuits aren't protected against electric shock.

Power questions, answered
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Tell-tale signs include ceramic fuses (old fuse wire), no safety switches, breakers that trip often, a burning smell, scorch marks, or lights that flicker when appliances start. If you spot any of these, book a check — an upgrade is usually straightforward and dramatically safer.
What is a safety switch and do I need one?
A safety switch (RCD) monitors the flow of electricity and cuts power within milliseconds if it detects a fault — protecting you from electric shock. In NSW they're required on power and lighting circuits, and we strongly recommend one on every circuit. If your board doesn't have them, we can fit them.
Why does my power keep tripping?
Frequent tripping usually means an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance, or a wiring fault — and sometimes a failing safety switch doing its job. Our electricians methodically isolate the cause rather than just resetting it, so the problem is actually fixed.
Can you add extra powerpoints to an existing room?
Yes — from a single extra GPO to powerpoints throughout a renovation, including USB, outdoor and weatherproof outlets. We'll advise on the best positions and make sure the circuit can handle the added load.
Do you offer emergency electrical repairs?
Yes. For a total power outage, burning smell, sparking or any unsafe fault, call us straight away — don't touch the board. We prioritise urgent call-outs to get you safe and back on power as quickly as possible.
