Switchboard upgrades done properly
Ceramic fuses, constant tripping or no safety switches? Our licensed electricians replace old boards with modern switchboards built to AS/NZS 3000 — with upfront pricing and no mess left behind.
Your switchboard is the heart of your electrics
An old or overloaded switchboard is one of the most common causes of electrical faults and fire risk in Australian homes. If yours still has ceramic fuses, trips regularly, or has no safety switches, it's time for an upgrade.
Every watt of power your property uses — from the street or from your own solar — passes through the switchboard first. Boards installed decades ago were never designed for the load a modern home or business puts through them.
- Switchboards should be inspected at least every five years
- Replacing a board means bringing the installation up to AS/NZS 3000
- Asbestos backing panels need a licensed Level 2 electrician to remove
Modern switchboards built for today's load
Switchboard Upgrades
Replace old fuse boards with modern switchboards built to handle today's electrical load.
Safety Switches (RCDs)
Residual current devices that cut the power on an earth fault, before it reaches you.
Ceramic Fuse Replacement
Old ceramic fuses protect against overload but not electric shock. We replace them with circuit breakers.
Asbestos Board Removal
Older boards often sit on asbestos backing. Removal is Level 2 work and we handle it to standard.
Surge Protection
A surge protector in the board takes the hit for your appliances and is simple to replace when it does.
Extra Circuits & Capacity
Renovating or adding load? We make room on the board so circuits are not doubled up.
Signs your switchboard needs attention
Ceramic fuses or scorch marks
Rewirable fuses and any sign of heat on the board are both reasons to act now.
Frequent tripping
A board that trips regularly is telling you it is beyond the load it was built for.
No safety switches
Without RCDs there is nothing between a fault and the person touching the appliance.
Flickering or dimming lights
Often a loose connection at the board rather than a problem with the fitting.
Compliant work, documented
Australian law is clear that replacing a switchboard means the installation it feeds has to meet AS/NZS 3000. We test and certify what we install, and you get the paperwork to prove it.
That matters at sale, at insurance time, and any time a strata committee or building manager asks who signed the work off.
Every upgrade tested, certified and documented to AS/NZS 3000.

Switchboard upgrade questions
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
The clearest signs are ceramic rewirable fuses instead of circuit breakers, no safety switches, repeated tripping, scorch marks or heat on the board, and lights that flicker for no obvious reason. Any one of those is worth an inspection.
How often should a switchboard be checked?
At least once every five years. Boards tend to go unnoticed until something goes wrong, which is exactly why a scheduled inspection is worth doing.
Do I need a Level 2 electrician?
For the board itself, usually not. You do need a Level 2 ASP if the work touches the network side — the service mains, metering, or removing asbestos backing panels. We hold Level 2 accreditation, so it is the same team either way.
What happens if there is asbestos behind the board?
Older switchboards are often mounted on asbestos sheeting. It has to be removed under the correct controls by a licensed electrician, not disturbed. We identify it at the quote stage so there are no surprises.
Will the whole installation need to be brought up to standard?
When an old switchboard is replaced, Australian law requires the electrical installation it serves to meet AS/NZS 3000. We tell you at quote stage if that means additional work.
